Self-taught or art school?

I am a self-taught artist, I studied graphic design in Rome, Italy, not at an art academy.  I couldn’t study at an art academy for several reasons, the main one was that my family did not agree with it. On the other hand, I have been studying art, since I was at elementary school, I attended a private elementary school where I had an art classroom and I’ve continued studying art on my own after high school as well.

If you could own one work of art what would it be?

Wow, this is a nice challenge, If I could own one work of art it will be “Rock, 1934 – by Alberto Magnelli”

How would you describe your style?

My style is unique, it has cubist and graphic influences for sure, however, I like to define it as Post Surrealism.

Can you tell us about your artistic process?

My artistic process comes from a mix of emotions I have at the time I decide to make a painting, it is not planned, it comes spontaneously out. I complete daily research on shapes, colours, combinations, living my life, my art is my life.

Is narrative important within your work?

Basically It depends, it is and it is not, I don’t look at art from an intellectual point of view only, art to me is ‘ your spirit’.

Who are your favourite artists and why?

I don’t have just one favourite artist, there are several, and they are from totally different art movements.  I cannot make restrictions in my art choice, but I may tell you probably I don’t really get installation art in museums.

What or who inspires your art?

Photography, people and my own life.

Where’s your studio and what’s it like?

I moved a lot in different countries, cities, therefore my studio is my home, my aim is to settle somewhere and finally to have a proper studio, not at home. I have had a hectic life so far, a bit of a gipsy life, it is quite impossible to look for a studio.

Do you have any studio rituals?
