Tianxi is an artist currently based in London, her work serves as a window into the subtle personal emotions and complex relationships that shape human experience. Through a delicate and introspective approach, Tianxi uses illustration, painting, and collage to explore the intricate connections between self, family, society, and the surrounding environment. Each piece is a reflection of the artist’s inner world and a testament to the bonds that define our lives. In addition to illustration and painting, Tianxi has a profound passion for working with collage, particularly in the realm of fashion. Fashion collage, with its unique capacity for layering textures, patterns, and elements, serves as a platform for Tianxi to challenge conventional perceptions and to present fashion in a fresh, compelling light. Each collage is an exploration of the limitless possibilities within this medium, blending various materials to create compositions that are both thought-provoking and visually dynamic.

She did a two-year Art & Design course at Vauxhall College and completed a BA Hons degree in Fine Art at Kingston University. Piluca was nominated finalist in the Arts category for the Wintrade International Awards 2018. A busy life as mother of two children didn’t stop the artist not only to become a published illustrator, but also to take part in numerous successful art shows, direct many local events and community enterprises in Brixton. www.thefluxreview.com
We are so excited to be featuring an interview by We are so excited to be featuring an interview by @annamcnay with @freyapocklington - profile pic is by @dylantcollard in edition 12 of @thefluxreview Freya Pocklington‘s drawings depict characters on the verdant fringes of society. Disarmingly charming in their execution, Freya’s work is closely bound to the idea of outsiders: how they come to be so, how they are perceived by others, and in particular the role that the media can play in creating outsiders by turning the everyday into the sensational. Many of her ideas come from internet news stories which over time have seen their subjects raised up and misrepresented, till everyday people are turned into spectacles to be gawped at, leaving them isolated and misunderstood. Freya explores this process through fragile characters in incredible, fantastical environments, surrounded by accumulations of unrelated objects that echo the noise of information excess. There is always an animal element, be they as crazy friends or facial masks, hinting on the one hand at the feral enjoyment that bizarre spectacles can create, and also relating to Freya’s research into the role that animals can play in helping fragile people to recover.

It is always such a pleasure to welcome new artist It is always such a pleasure to welcome new artists to our #fluxfamily ⁠ ⁠ Introducing @katewatercolours who will be exhibitiong at FLUX Exhibition 2025⁠ ⁠ Kate Grant is a versatile artist and storyteller who has been a dedicated primary care and emergency medicine physician since 1996, Kate seamlessly merges her passions for medicine, storytelling, medical biography, and illustration with scientific and medical communication. Since 2018, she has also served as a writing correspondent and graphic artist for 'TheCurbsiders.com' podcast, focusing on internal medicine and primary care.⁠ ⁠ She has been collaborating with scientists at the University of Cambridge since 2014, contributing to projects like #CreativeReactions and the #PintofScience Festival. A three-time 'Best in Show' winner for #CreativeRxns, she also won the ART-TRAnslations award at #LATSS24 London, and was a finalist for the Morale & Welfare Award at the Aneurin Bevan & Peoples NHS Day Awards 2021 in Wales, for her poignant series of 70 NHS staff portraits during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her work has supported many charities and been exhibited at the New York Hall of Science 2019.⁠ ⁠ Her artistic talents have graced book covers for prestigious publications by Cambridge University Press, Harvard, journals including 'Anthropology Today', and the 'Indian Journal of Medical Ethics'.

Italian by nationality, Davide Susca was born in Luxembourg in 1970, and has been a resident of Portugal since 2005. He holds a degree in interior architecture from the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles and has always had a passion for the arts, particularly painting, where he explores various techniques he has developed himself. Utilising different materials, with a focus on recycling plastic and transforming it into color and texture, Davide aims to create a unique artistic language. The vibrant colours present in some of his works reflect his Italian heritage.

Born and raised in London Jacobson discovered her love for art at an early age. Her talent and unwavering dedication led her to pursue a formal education in the arts, earning a degree in Textile Design from Manchester University. From there she went into the world of fashion buying and busy raising three sons , left her paint brush behind for many years! The scope and subject of her work are broad, and Lowry's approach to painting ranges from semi-abstract to abstract. She uses a variety of media, including acrylics, oils, cold wax, and natural pigments, inks, and pastels, on a variety of different surfaces.⁠ ⁠ Lowry's work is inspired by both the external world around her and our own inner spaces, especially in how abstract form can be used to express our own inner moods and landscape. Lowry is inspired to paint intuitively, reflecting on the shifts in her own inner world. Her paintings are not confined to one particular genre or style; she enjoys the challenge of exploring different subjects and techniques. The portfolio of her work is thus broad in scope, and she loves the freedom that painting provides.⁠ ⁠

It is such a pleasure to welcome back @lesleyoldak It is such a pleasure to welcome back @lesleyoldakerart #fluxfamily to #fluxexhibition2025 ⁠ ⁠ Lesley Oldaker is a British artist with a impressive list of exhibitions which has her and her work all over the world including the USA, Switzerland, Slovakia, Ireland, Italy, France, Sweden, India and China.⁠ ⁠ Oldaker's work observes modern day society and through her painting, she explores our complex relationships, transient nature and ‘life purpose’ within random moving figurative groups and our interactions within the space around us.⁠ ⁠ Inspiration and ideas evolve naturally from events witnessed and viewed in the media, and in society generally, which evoke strong emotional responses in her. We offered a prize of a Flux Exhibition space to We offered a prize of a Flux Exhibition space to the Women in Art winner 2024 @annemosesartist @women_in_art__ ⁠ ⁠ We cannot wait to showcase her incredible work in May! ⁠ ⁠ Since leaving University with a B.A Honours Degree in Fine Art she has been developing and producing work continuously.⁠ ⁠ Up until 2014 Anne supported her studio practice lecturing in Art & Design. She managed and delivered a successful Art & Design Access to Higher Education Course which enabled many disadvantaged adults to return into mainstream education and gain entry into universities across the UK.⁠ Since 2015 Anne has been practising as a full time professional artist exhibiting both nationally and internationally with work in several private collections.⁠ ⁠ Her work has mutated but the same themes have remained constant i.e: close up & detailed observation of the skin, facial features & texture; montaged images; ambiguity. The main area of interest has always been the human face and form, encompassing universal recognition of emotion and sensuality seen up close with highly detailed observation. Larger than life images dealing with fragments of life seen at close range – the portrayal of the elusive touch or feeling; the detail and minutiae of life; introspection – fleeting ‘moments’ translated into paintings:⁠ ⁠ Anne tells us⁠ ⁠ “I believe that there is an innate response to the mimetic and the re-presentation of our own image, it is something we are fascinated by and conditioned to respond to. Painting takes this into another realm with the artist controlling each element of the re-presentation.”⁠ ⁠ ⁠ Massive congratulations @annemosesartist so well deserved.

We are delighted to showcase the work of @theretro We are delighted to showcase the work of @theretrodreamer in our Creative Souls Virtual Exhibition. ⁠ ⁠ https://www.thefluxreview.com/current-virtual/⁠ ⁠ Steve Timms was born in 60's Manchester and grew up in Oldham. He is an artist, writer, and occasional performer. He has always been highly creative, working in different genres with different materials. Steve studied graphic design at Oldham Art College and started making Super 8 films, and experimental videos. ⁠ ⁠ In the 1980s, he became interested in theatre, acting in various amateur theatre shows around Manchester, including an acclaimed production of Joe Orton's rarely performed 'What the Butler Saw.' In the 1990's, he did a theatre studies degree at the University of Huddersfield.⁠ ⁠ After graduation, Steve began working as a theatre critic for the Big Issue, and City Life magazine, reviewing shows and interviewing actors (spending time with the late Pete Postlethwaite being a career highlight). He is the author of several plays including 'Filthy Lies, Clean Breasts' (Edinburgh Fringe, 1998), 'American Beer' (BBC Radio 4), 'Detox Mansion' (24:7 Festival), 'Temp/Casual' (Contact Theatre), and 'The Distance Between Stars' (Studio Salford). In 2015, he won a New Talent prize at the Northern Writers Awards.

Embracing all forms of printmaking equally his prints are produced using hand or laser cut plates, via hand stamped blocks, as risograph prints, or digitally as Giclée prints. As a painter he works predominantly with oils or acrylics. He was originally trained in Wood Metal Ceramics and Plastics at Brighton Polytechnic. There he used the opportunity to develop a series of sculptural mixed media floor pieces in wood and ceramics. After leaving Brighton he continued to develop his work both 2 and 3 dimensionally but now mostly works in 2D, with paint, print and encaustic mixed media.

With a background in building and construction, Frankel often sketched colourful absractions withn coloured markers while talking ojn the telephone. His wife encouraged this passion and in 2019 entered him into a competition sponsored by a New York City gallery where he was chosen to participate in a group show. Since then Frankel’s paintings have been exhibited nationally and internationally. New York Galleries include Saphira and Ventura Gallery, SITE Gallery, and 440 Gallery. He enjoys painting people, plants, and the places where they meet. Predominantly using gouache and watercolour mediums, he enjoys depicting the emotion of the subject accurately rather than its figurative form. This has led him to use a sketchy, almost unfinished style that pulls back the process of painting, reminding the viewer of its human quirks in a time when machine-made imagery is exceedingly popular.⁠ ⁠ He graduated from the University of the West of England this summer and is making his start in what will (hopefully) be a fruitful arty career!⁠ ⁠ @spiritdai

Her passion for painting started when she was eight years old and led her to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting and Drawing in 2019, followed by her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting in 2023, both from the Academy of Art University (AAU). Throughout her artistic journey, she has participated in group exhibitions, such as the Spring Show (juried by the AAU's Fine Art department), and featured in several art magazines, including Southwest Art Magazine's “21 Under 31: Young Artists to Watch in 2021."⁠ ⁠ Her recent urban landscape series, titled ‘Moments at That Time: San Francisco,’ is a journey through life in San Francisco, a rediscovery of the comfort and familiarity left behind in her home country. Each painting captures moments that may be easily overlooked in the city's daily life, revealing its beauty through her unique perspective. Executed mainly in oil on canvas, her paintings reflect the city’s beauty through composition, color, and texture as representational urban landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the city’s diverse atmosphere, architecture, light, iconic setting, and varied weather, she skillfully shares her viewpoint with viewers. ⁠

By the age of 15, she had decided to become an artist despite parental pressure to pursue her academic studies, in which she excelled. In fact, her wide-ranging and enquiring mind was harnessed to her passion for art and the next five years were formative not simply in honing formidable graphic and painting skills, but also in exploring world literature, history, philosophy and psychology – and of course, art. Her work has been compared to Francis Bacon, Paula Reago and de Kooning in style and quality and is very much unique in its subject matter and interpretation of life as a young woman in 21st century Britain. In 2011 with the Arts Council of Great Britain's support Hesketh embarked on a series of paintings commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witch Trials in Lancashire. Hesketh produced six extraordinary depictions of the hysteria of the moment dancing between 17th and 21st century politics, her work is relevant, edgy and disturbing. Following up the critical success of "˜A Pendle Investigation' shown at The Newman St Gallery, London, Hesketh painted a series of work depicting the life and poetry of Sylvia Plath.

Our Creative Souls Virtual Exhibition featuring 20 Our Creative Souls Virtual Exhibition featuring 20 artists will go live on Saturday. ⁠ ⁠ One of our artists is the wonderful Yibei Liu who is a figurative sculptor with a deep interest in the human condition. Her curiosity about human behavior and emotions fuels her creative process. Observing that people often act on impulse and inertia, seldom pausing to reflect on the underlying meanings and reasons behind their actions and feelings, Liu has long been fascinated by these questions. As a child, she frequently asked herself, "Why do people do what they do?" and "Why do they feel what they feel?" Her current project marks the beginning of a deeper exploration of these inquiries. It serves as a personal documentary of her evolving understanding of the human condition, capturing her study of the intricate relationship between emotions, actions, and the psychological motivations that drive them.

Following Brooke’s successful inaugural visit to InterContinental Maldives in 2023, she is back by popular demand and will be on island from 28th December 2024 to 9th January 2025 capturing the beauty of Raa Atoll, situated the edge of a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, from a bird’s eye perspective. This two-week residency will include laid-back art classes for guests, individual commissions from the most beautiful locations on the resort and a carefully curated exhibition of Brooke’s Maldivian seascapes – giving guests the opportunity to take home a unique piece of the island. Brooke will also be painting a piece that is dedicated to The Manta Trust, the luxury resort’s long-standing partner, with the 100% of the proceeds going towards the crucial work carried out by the charity. InterContinental Maldives is delighted to once again welcome Brooke to the resort, which aims to capture the island’s infinite ocean views, treasured marine life and surrounding nature from the air and ground.⁠
