Dreaming with her eyes wide open. Angelica Tcherassi strives to express with her designs what inspires her in daily life: Family, Happiness, Desires, Dreams, Light. Her products and interiors give voice to a unique eclectic approach in which all merges to perfection. Tcherassi works as an Independent Product Designer, Creative Director & Artist with a worldwide heart and vision. The overlapping analysis of craftsmanship and technology play an important role in her designs as well as materials and functionality in itself. For her, it is vital through her designs to shine a light into the world through her creations. Injecting good vibes into spaces and our daily lives is a choice, it’s a lifestyle.
Being a Colombian, who lives in Spain, she always strives to be involved in projects and collaborations that express the current Contempo vibes, as she likes to call them. For Tcherassi, it is important to create pieces and spaces that captivate. Her first collection was launched during Barcelona Design Week 2013. Tcherassi is from Barranquilla (Colombia), a country that she’ll always have in her heart. La Arenosa, the Golden Gate city of Colombia, was the place where she grew up for the first 23 years of her life. Since 2003, Barcelona became her new home, where she graduated from her Architecture & Design studies. After working with international design studios, in 2018, to create her own practice with her own name: Angelica Tcherassi, was a must for her.
For Tcherassi people should be able to read the same object in several different ways, to transport their minds to a happy place, to memories, to dreams, to connect with their heart and emotions. Design and Art should go by hand in the craftsmanship of it all, evoking and provoking sentiments. Tcherassi’s work is in the true spirit of being lively, by creating scenarios and pieces that merge through values such as functionality, quality and consciousness of the world itself. By erasing eras, styles and prejudices she emphasises being global, as she believes nowadays the access to information and how we work and relate create a much more eclectic way of appreciating and enjoying design overall. She believes through art and design we can connect in more ways than just physical.
Self Taught or Art School?
Self Taught. In my life, I have dived into design and art on several different scales since the start: from architecture (2006) to interiors, to product design(2013) to artworks (2020). Perhaps with the unconscious aim to always get a little closer and more in sync with my inner self. In an evolving growth process that would allow me to find my own voice, to silence my mind and release freely who I really am. With my artworks, I get to totally express what I really want to share out into the world, LIGHT.

If you could own one work of art what would it be?
It is hard to choose, even among My Own. As Designers we wear our hearts on our sleeves, as Artists we lose freight of being vulnerable. As through our work, we bare our soul out into the open, not to be judged, but to connect in other ways otherwise unknown.
Can you tell us about your artistic process?
In Artworks, as I want to set my soul completely free and just let my hand and soul flow, It has resulted more on the abstract side with contempo vibes as I like to call it, without a preconception or previously planned thought. With art I just allow myself to BE, connect with my higher self and inner child and grant myself permission just to let go and flow from within. No thoughts come in the way, just the present moment. Art is a way of expressing our soul’s essence. All that is unspoken.
Is Narrative important within your work?
Yes for me it is important to generate good vibes. Playing around with colours and palettes that resonate with my heart. Always having in mind what I believe to be my Essence, Humanity, Love, Energy, Vibrations and Resilience. The power within.
Who are your favourite artists and why?
We are all artists within our lives and within this world. I admire Anyone with resilience and who Dares to Dream.
An Artist is not someone that wishes to copy or wants to be like anyone else. An Artist is someone who is unique because he has found himself, knows truly who he is, with his own shadows and Lights, respects his inner self and wants to share that into the world. His essence, his soul.
What or who inspires your art?
For me, my art has a very clear mission to help elevate our emotions and energy with our spaces and all that surrounds us. Through the power of colour and form while shining outwards my light as an artist. To give voice to the unspoken. Art helps us feel and listen to our hearts while silencing the mind. The Universe, Energy and Humanity are my greatest core.
Through art, we can help uplift and change the world consciousness, something so badly needed these days. I have learned that at the end of the day we are all the same, seeking true love and acceptance, which is actually already inside us all and which actually we must first grant to ourselves, we just have to tap into it. Colour can help us balance ourselves, leaving space to focus on what really matters. Art is another way of meditation or healing, being you the observer or the artist itself.
Where is your studio and what is it like?
I am a Colombian Artist and Designer based in Barcelona, Spain. My studio is my home and practically anywhere I can lose myself away with my iPad.
Do you have any studio rituals?
When I am running low in energy or mood, I turn the music up and dance. In winter some hot drinks and in summer something cold are a must by my side. I also have stones around for good vibes only. I usually start painting after watching the skies, I have a special connection with clouds, they bring me special ease and peace.
What are you working on currently?
I paint digital art daily. It helps me free my soul and clear my head. I work on canvas and special objects usually upon requests.
This 2021 I am engaging in several projects and collaborations with amazing international brands worldwide from fashion to jewellery, to candies to rugs and wallpapers such as Yo2Designs, A Lot Studio, Palo Rosa and Papabubble among many others coming up in the next months to be able to transcend my art into other mediums. We are so much more than a single tag, we have so many layers to reveal. I believe strongly in a world of abundance, support, community and following your heart. We are stronger together. We are all one. I believe I am Created to Create.
